October 14 – 15, 2023: Blacksmithing: Build a Hatchet

This course will cover forge welding, lamination, hardening and tempering, and drifting and handling.  A stock wooden handle will be provided so students can leave with a complete tool.

This course is suitable for the ambitious novice or the experienced beginner. We do not recommend this course to young smiths (10 – 14 yr) unless that smith is ready for some serious physical work! This course has been completed successfully by young smiths in the past. Those smiths have been really motivated.

Class includes safe shop practices, fire management, efficient hammer techniques and basic forging.  All safety equipment and materials provided.

9am – 4pm both days

Tuition: $269 covers materials and instruction for the duration of the weekend. Refund, Transfer and Cancellation Policy

Please Note:   A parent, guardian or responsible adult must be on site for students under 18 years of age for the duration of the class.  Adults accompanying minors do not have to take the class, but they are welcome to if they wish.
