This year we are hosting Rory May of Dragon Forge Ltd in Pine, Colorado. You may visit his website here to see the style and quality of his work. Focusing on traditional joinery, this year’s project will be a collaborative park bench built for the Waynesboro Parks and Recreation Department. The work will be publicly displayed and used as an interactive artwork with the Waynesboro community. The design of the bench will remain undisclosed until the time of class to present participants with the maximum challenge. Students can expect to work on their skills of forging to accurate dimensions, design and engineering, and team building.

The class will be held in April 23 – 27, 2018. Class hours will be 8 to 5 Monday through Thursday, and 8 to 11 AM Friday.  Mon – Thurs we can go later if needed. There will be goals to achieve each day and we will go longer if those goals are incomplete.

Tuition is $649 and includes materials and fuel as well as standard safety equipment. We have plenty of tools at the school, but if you have a favorite hammer, please bring it along.

Rory May was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico but has lived in Colorado since the age of 2. He is a second generation blacksmith having grown up surrounded by forges, hammers and metal. His strong artistic talent and interest in all things computer generated led him to a Bachelor’s degree in Media Arts and Animation. After exploring that interest and deciding that the things he wanted to create should have a longer more tangible impact, he concentrated his creative abilities on metal. Rory’s contributions to Dragon Forge, Ltd have grown and developed into a corner stone of what the studio personifies. Now as a partner in the studio, his unique perspective and design sense have expanded and deepened what the scope of work Dragon Forge, Ltd., is known for and has allowed Rory to add his own distinctive mark. When not swinging a hammer Rory can be found fishing or forging his own creation at isolatedreality.com or working on contributing his knowledge to the craft at DirtySmith.com
