May 8 – 11, 2017: Blacksmithing: Metal Sculpture Class with Christoph Friedrich

Join us for an Metal Sculpture Class with Christoph A. Friedrich on sculpture techniques in metal.  4/24 – 1 spot is open!

Previous Experience is REQUIRED for this class.

 

Christoph FriedrichSwitzerland born, Christoph A. Friedrich will be leading a 4-day sculptural metalwork class with a different theme each day.  Each morning will begin with a slide show of projects and a discussion of the techniques and tools that will be used that day. Mr. Friedrich will then show the techniques and lead the class through the project.

Tentative schedule is:

  • Day 1: Columns and pillars
  • Day 2: Balance
  • Day 3: Joinery – both traditional and contemporary
  • Day 4: Forge a small organic sculpture

The schedule will be confirmed approximately 2 weeks prior to the course start date.

Mr. Friedrich is a Master Blacksmith with 50 years of experience working with metal. He is the owner and manager of the historic, water powered Blacksmith shop in Sennwald, Switzerland. That shop specializes in the revival of the traditional shop techniques.  He has been a demonstrator in several international blacksmith meetings including in the countries of England, Finland, Germany, Korea, and Canada.  Mr. Friedrich is also a Licensed Expert and Inspector for the National Licensing for Master Blacksmith.

$640 per student. Registration is complete when payment is complete. This fee is inclusive of the coal needed for the workshop, use of the shop and shop tools, metal for the duration of the workshop, and instruction fee.  Students should have prior experience lighting and maintaining a coal fire and have a foundation in artistic blacksmith techniques. Students are responsible for their own meals and lodging.  Call or Contact Us for more information.
