Classes marked as PVCC and BRCC are taught through Piedmont Virginia Community College and Blue Ridge Community College respectively. Blacksmithing Beginner – Hook Rack and Candlestick (formerly Version 1)
$249
Hammer metal to create a candlestick and wall-mounted coat rack in this beginner level weekend course. Class includes safe shop practices, fire management, efficient hammer techniques and basic forging. Class is 9 AM to 4 PM, Saturday and Sunday. For specific dates, see above. Blacksmithing Beginner – Wall-Mounted Pot Rack (formerly Version 2)
$249
Learn the same basic blacksmithing skills as in Version 1 plus riveting and bending tools and techniques. Projects include a wall-mounted pot rack. Class is 9 AM to 4 PM, Saturday and Sunday. For specific dates, see above. Register for this class through PVCC or BRCC.
Blacksmithing Beginner – Fire, Rakes and Leaves (formerly Version 3)
$249
Learn the basic blacksmithing skills as in Version 1 plus an introduction to leaf making. Projects will include a forge fire rake. This class will be taught by guest instructor David Tucciarone of Sunrise Forge. Class is 9 AM to 4 PM, Saturday and Sunday. For specific dates, see above. Blacksmithing Beginner – Wizard Heads

This is a beginning level course where you learn all you need to know about shop safety, fire management, and hammer control. You will use the technique of hot chasing to create a couple of whimsical wizard heads in bar stock to become hooks or bottle openers. The student will also create the tools needed for the chasing.
Blacksmithing Beginner – Wizard Staffs

This is a beginning level course where you will learn all you need to know about shop safety, fire management, and hammer control. Each student will create a unique finial for a staff ready to cast spells and defeat Balrogs. Each finial will be affixed to a wooden dowel.
Blacksmithing Beginner – Build a Shield

This is a beginning level course where you will learn all you need to know about shop safety, fire management, and hammer control. Create a shield with with your own emblems ready for mock battle. A great piece to show off at the next Renaissance Fair.
Blacksmithing Beginner – Build a Helmet

This is a beginning level course where you will learn all you need to know about shop safety, fire management, and hammer control. Create a helmet with your own embellishment to show off at the next SCA event or Renaissance Fair.
Blacksmithing Beginner – Build a Spear

This is a beginning level course where you will learn all you need to know about shop safety, fire management, and hammer control. Make a spear head worthy of Middle Earth of your own pattern. A dowel will be provided for each spear head.
Blacksmithing Beginner – Just in Time for Valentines – Hearts and Roses

This is a beginning level course where you will learn all you need to know
about shop safety, fire management, and hammer control. For that special someone, make them a heart shape with a rose out of steel that will never wilt. A perfect Valentine’s Day gift!
Blacksmithing Beginner – Kitchen and Bath Hardware

This is a beginning level course where you will learn all you need to know about shop safety, fire management and hammer control. Make a towel ring or bar, paper towel and toilet paper holder, and a bottle opener. Hand made implements to spruce up your home.
Blacksmithing Beginner – Garden Gizmos

This is a beginning level course where you will learn all you need to know
about shop safety, fire management, and hammer control. Build a hose holder, bird feeder stand, and a porch plant hook to use around your home.
Hand made items to beautify your garden.
Blacksmithing Intermediate – Tongs Tools and Knives

Forge your own set of tongs and get an introduction to knife making in this two-day intermediate class that focuses on simple tools, hardening and tempering. Register for this class through PVCC or BRCC.
Prerequisite: Any Blacksmithing Beginner Class or previous blacksmithing experience.
Blacksmithing Intermediate – Traditional Joinery Trivet

Forge a table trivet as you learn to join metal using the time-honored techniques of tenon and rivet joinery and forge welding. This class is a great first step towards more complex projects. Register for this class through PVCC or BRCC.
Prerequisite: Any Blacksmithing Beginner Class or previous blacksmithing experience.
Blacksmithing Intermediate – Pattern Welded Damascus
$249
Create decorative patterns in metal by forge welding steels of different carbon contents. Damascus pattern steels are most commonly used in the making of knives and jewelry. Register for this class through PVCC or BRCC.
Prerequisite: Any Blacksmithing Beginner Class or previous blacksmithing experience as well as the Traditional Joinery Trivet class.
Blacksmithing Intermediate – Roses and Leaves
$249
Explore floral forms, specifically the rose, in sheet steel. Forge welding, forged leaves and an introduction to torch work are included. Register for this class through PVCC or BRCC.
Prerequisite: Any Blacksmithing Beginner Class or previous blacksmithing experience.
Blacksmithing Intermediate – Cabin Hardware
$249
Forge hardware you can use in your home. Students will create a thumb-latch and strap hinge which can both be easily converted to cabinet hardware. Register for this class through PVCC or BRCC.
Prerequisite: Any Blacksmithing Beginner Class or previous blacksmithing experience.
Introduction to Welding and Fabrication Techniques
$399
Learn the basics of mig welding and metal shop tools. This is a great opportunity to practice with these tools before purchasing for your own shop. Students will receive instruction in layout and fabrication of a basic project. Register for this class through PVCC or BRCC.
Note: This class is introductory only and will NOT provide certification in any aspect of welding.
Fun-da-metal Evening Course
$399
This is an introductory course to the art of metal fabrication and forging.
Subjects covered in this comprehensive course include shop safety, layout
and design, cutting with mechanical tools and plasma, oxy-acetelyne torch
techniques, mig-welding, drilling, grinding and finishing, and beginning
blacksmithing. Students will have a choice of stool, garden gate, or fire screen project.
Friday Afternoon Open Shop—Note New Day
Open Shop is held each Friday from 3 PM to 6 PM. Students can practice their skills or work on personal projects. Fee of $10 per hour plus additional materials fee (depending on the project). Personal projects can not be stored at the studio.
Call 434-960-9718 no later than Thursday noon prior to Open Shop and leave a message to reserve your spot. Space is limited.
Prerequisite: Any Blacksmithing Beginner class or previous blacksmithing experience, or membership in the Shenandoah Valley Blacksmiths Guild.
