Blacksmithing Classes

July 24, 2017: Blacksmithing: Railroad Spike Novelty Knife

Make a knife shaped object out of a railroad spike.  We cannot allow you to set the edge of your project at the shop and we do not recommend it, but we can show you how to make a knife-shaped object out of a railroad spike! (We also cannot guarantee the carbon content of the spike therefore although we will show you how to harden and temper the steel, it may not be appropriate to then use it as a knife.)

July 29 – 30, 2017: Blacksmithing: Damascus

This blacksmithing class will show you how to forge pattern welded Damascus. There is a lot of forge welding and power hammer work with this class. Each student will be able to take away all of the Damascus billets they make. From there, you could forge it into whatever shape you would like.
Fire management basics and shop safety will also be covered.  Because of the noise of the power hammer, it is recommended that students bring over the ear hearing protection. We have in-ear plugs available.

Student created Damascus

We recommend that this class follow some sort of previous experience. It is possible for an ambitious new student to be successful in this class. We let students decide which class is right for them.
