August 19 – 20, 2017: Blacksmithing: Campfire Cookset

Perfect for Summer Camp Cooking!  This class project is a campfire cooking tripod, S-hook(s), fry pan, spoon, and fork. Students will learn bending, drilling, tapering, hardening, and tempering.

August 21, 2017: Blacksmithing: Hinges & Door Pulls

Create a set of custom hinges and door pulls for your gates, doors, or even kitchen cabinets. This class will focus on traditional blacksmithing techniques. Each student is limited only by the time and effort put into the projects.

You will be working closely with hot steel in August. Returning students who are comfortable with lighting a fire can arrive at 9am. New students should arrive by 8.30am for the shop safety and fire management orientation.

This is a ONE DAY class.

NEW students: Your safe shop practices and fire management discussion will begin at 8.30am.

RETURNING Students: Please arrive by 9.00am.

August 26-27, 2017: Blacksmithing: Build a Spear

SpearsMake a spear head worthy of Middle Earth of your own pattern. This is a beginning level course where you will learn all you need to know about shop safety, fire management, and hammer control.
A dowel will be provided for each spear head.

Sept. 4, 2017: Blacksmithing: Railroad Spike Novelty Knife

Make a knife shaped object out of a railroad spike.  We cannot allow you to set the edge of your project at the shop and we do not recommend it, but we can show you how to make a knife-shaped object out of a railroad spike! (We also cannot guarantee the carbon content of the spike therefore although we will show you how to harden and temper the steel, it may not be appropriate to then use it as a knife.)

This is a ONE DAY class.

Sept. 9-10, 2017: Blacksmithing: Build a Hatchet

Build your own hatchet! This course will cover forge welding, lamination, mechanical joining, and tool making.  A handle will be provided so students can leave with a complete tool.
